The German feed-in tariff has been widely credited with driving the development of one of the world’s largest renewable energy markets, but officials have become increasingly concerned that the sector is over-subsidised and have argued that cutting the rates would help to reduce energy bills.
The move has been fiercely opposed by the industry, which has broadly accepted that some form of cut in tariffs is necessary, but has argued that the proposed 16 per cent reduction is “excessive”.
